Ladies and Gentlemen,
Due to increasing problems with electrostatic discharges caused by "highly static" packing material, like plastic bags/ plastic foil or styrofoam/polystyrene we need to optimise and modify the whole packaging and transport rules for our suppliers.
Explanation: ESD (electrostatic discharge / electrostatic sensitive components)
Static electricity is an inactive/latent electrical charge which is caused by friction and/or joining and separation from non conducting materials. Voltages up to 30.000 V can occur. (Everyone knows this effect from an electric shock at a door latch or at the car door).
If there are discharges through/along sensitive electronic parts (ICs, Semiconductors, PCBs, …) these parts can be damaged or destroyed already at Voltages around 30 V. We don't have the possibility for a 100% check in inspection, so we have to optimise the whole supply chain.
Activity for our suppliers:
For us it's important that in the future all our suppliers only use ESD confirm packaging material for all goods. These materials have to be STATIC-DISSIPATIVE. (Old term: antistatic packaging)
A conductive or shielding packing is only needed in special cases which would be defined for each product/ product group by our development and purchasing department.
For detailed questions please contact your local packaging supplier.
Best Regards,
